Book donations are gratefully accepted at the Sawmill Road Library (Mon-Fri 9am-3pm, extended hours on Wed until 8pm). You can also donate small amounts of books at bookmobile stops. We may add some donated books to our collections, and others will be sold to help fund our services. Our books sales fund about half of the new books we buy each year!

With your donation, you become a member of the Friends of the Columbia County Traveling Library, a separate 501c3 non-profit organization whose mission is to support the library. We could not do what we do without our Friends!

The Traveling Library is a community resource and a community effort — we depend on volunteers. Here are several opportunities to help!

Bookmobile Volunteer
Ride along on the bookmobile and help check books out and reshelve them. Typically this is a 5-8 hour weekday commitment and we hope you can be a regular volunteer at least once per month. A lot of fun!

Sawmill Road Library Volunteer
Help us keep the Sawmill Road Library open for people to return books and browse our large collection there. Check out and re-shelve books as needed. Currently we need volunteers on Wednesdays from 3-6pm and 6-8pm.

Collections Volunteer
If you are great at detail-oriented projects, we could use your help wrapping books in protective coverings and keeping our collections in good order on the shelves. If you have good computer skills, we can use help with updating online catalog records as well. A perfect opportunity for people who don’t necessarily love working with people! This work can be done on your schedule between 9am-3pm Mon-Fri. We hope for a 2-3 hour weekly commitment.

Books on Wheels Volunteer
Some residents of our county are homebound or live in nursing homes. They would love a friendly visit from a volunteer who can help them get books to read. A visit once a month can make a big difference for a neighbor in need! We hope each volunteer can make a commitment of 1-2 visits per month. We will train you.

Book Sale Volunteer
If you can only help once or twice a year, consider helping out at a book sale! We need people to move small boxes of books down the hall on a flatbed cart, people to unpack and sort the books on tables, people to help customers during sales, and people to pack up after the sale.

Contact Ammon Young at 570-387-8782 or if you want to know more about volunteering!
