Friends of the Library
Description & Activities:The Friends of the Columbia County
Traveling Library, a separately incorporated volunteer organization (501C3), was
founded in 1991 to encourage people to read, and to support and promote the
services of the library. Through fund raising activities such as used book
sales, food sales, quilt raffles, and membership dues, the Friends have provided
special items to the library that are normally not included in the regular
operating budget. $4,500 was raised for the new bookmobile in 1996, prizes
and parties were furnished for summer reading programs, a circulation desk and
other new furniture was purchased for the library, as well as computer
equipment, office equipment, large print books, and DVDs.Meetings are held
regularly to plan twice yearly book sales, and summer reading activities.
For more details, contact the librarian at 387-8782.
The Friends are always in need of volunteers. They are always happy to
have the help of active participants, but even if there isn't time to be
involved, they encourage everyone to join. A newsletter is sent every spring,
and a membership campaign is conducted in April during National Library Week.
