How to get a library card
Any resident of Columbia County is entitled to a Columbia County Traveling Library card. Please visit the bookmobile or the library office to fill out an application card. Children under 14 may have their own card; we ask that a parent or guardian co-sign the child’s card. (Reminder for new patrons: We are not affiliated with the Bloomsburg Public Library.)
The first time you check out materials, you will be asked to limit yourself to two or three items, to avoid the possibility of a big fine in case of a misunderstanding. After that, you may take as many books and CDs as you'll use until the next bookmobile visit (up to three videos).
Borrowing Times
Borrowing periods for books and other materials are based on our bookmobile schedule. If you are finished with your materials, we encourage you to return them at our next scheduled bookmobile visit to your stop –even if they are not yet due.
Most books for adults and children: one month.
New adult fiction and non-fiction: 14 days (Renewable except if there is a waiting list.)
DVDs: 14 days
CD audiobooks: one month
Renewals
Unless another patron has requested an item, items may be renewed until the next bookmobile visit. To renew an item, please contact the library or just tell the bookmobile staff. Please call us if you cannot meet the bookmobile to due to illness or bad weather.
Please note: At monthly stops, “14-day” items may NOT be renewed.
All regular items may be renewed once. You may do this in person, with or without the book, or over the phone. If someone has placed the book on reserve, you won't be able to renew it.
New Fines Policy
As of May 2011, we now charge fines for overdue materials. Since our visits to bookmobile stops are relatively brief, we encourage you to contact us before materials become very overdue.
14-Day books and DVDs
• Up to 4 weeks (not renewed): NO FINE
• AFTER 4 weeks (not renewed): $5.00 + $1.00 per week thereafter
4-Week books and CD Audiobooks
• Up to 2 months (not renewed): NO FINE
• AFTER 2 months (not renewed): $2.00 + $1.00 per week thereafter
Bookmobile staff will make every effort to caution patrons about overdue books, however, it is the patron’s responsibility to return items on time. After 6 months, fines and lost book charges will be pursued through the Magistrate’s Office.
Lost or Damaged Materials
Lost items, or items damaged beyond repair: you'll be asked to pay for the items. If you notice damage to a book before you check it out, please mention it to the bookmobile staff. |
