Policies
How to get a Library card:
A library card is issued free of charge to any county resident
presenting proper identification and proof of current address. A driver’s
license or document with name & current address is sufficient. You will be asked
to fill out an application and you may borrow items right away. In most cases,
your new library card will be furnished on your next visit. Children under 14
signing up for a library card for the first time must be accompanied by a parent
or guardian who needs to co-sign the application.
Loan Periods and Renewals:
Most items are checked out for 4 weeks, with one renewal possible. The
exceptions are: new adult fiction – 14 days, renewable only if not on reserve;
DVDs – 14 days, not renewable, limit two per family or household. There are no
overdue fines; however we do expect returns to be made on time so that others
may enjoy the books. If a bookmobile visit is cancelled for any reason, our
books will be automatically renewed for the next scheduled visit.
Reserves
The bookmobile has a capacity for approximately 3,000 items. Since we order
new books regularly, the bookmobile collection is being constantly replenished.
If you don’t find the title you are looking for, please ask for it! There is no
charge to place a reserve on a book.
Overdue or Lost BooksIf your books are overdue you will be notified by telephone or mail, and asked to return the items as soon as possible or on the next bookmobile visit. Lost or damaged books need to be paid for with payment made to the Columbia County Traveling Library Authority. If books are not returned, borrowing privileges will be revoked and legal action may be taken.
Interlibrary LoansIf the library or bookmobile doesn’t own a book you are looking for, it may be obtained from other libraries as an interlibrary loan. There is no charge to get an interlibrary loan, but you must be a patron in good standing. Books less than one year old, valuable reference books or genealogical materials are not subject to interlibrary loan.
Internet AccessPublic access computers with a cable modem connection to the internet are available in the library headquarters, but not on the bookmobile. First time users must present identification and sign a policy outlining the rules for use. Parents must be present in person to give permission for a
child under 18 to use the computer. Use is limited to one hour per day for all users. Users are asked to sign in and sign out when they use the computers. State law strictly prohibits accessing obscene or pornographic websites in a public location. Users may not alter or tamper with computers or hard drives in any way. Filters have been installed on the network. Computer privileges will be revoked if rules are not observed.
